Mochitsuki is one of three seasonal time commitments and one of only two community center support commitments. It is imperative we give our time to the Eden community Center in this way. We support the center yearly at this time in making mochi that is then sold to the community in preparation for the New Year.

Mochi or rice cake is essential to the Oshogatsu or New Year's celebration. The pounding of steamed mochigome or sweet glutinous rice to make mochi is called mochitsuki. In earlier times, both in Japan and within the Japanese-American community, friends and family would gather together to pound the New Year's mochi.

Mochitsuki is an all day event, which requires many hands, long hours, and physical labor, but it is also a time of fellowship and socializing. This is part of our community service for the benefit of the Issei and Nisei in our community, requiring all of our members to participate in it.

Come join us at our 30th Annual Eden 'D' and 'E' Basketball Jamboree. Over 400 participants from 40+ teams, ranging from K-6th grades come together for an enjoyable and competitive day of basketball.

Eden Athletic Club holds the boys and girls ‘D’ & ‘E’ Jamboree as a single day friendship tournament. It is an event that is designed to promote good sportsmanship and encourage full participation by every roster player registered for the event. To advance these goals, we suggest that coaches play each player a minimum of two quarters in each game.

All teams will play a ‘Jamboree Format’ of 2 games. Only regular league roster teams will be accepted. We ask that no “all star” or “tournament” teams register for the Jamboree. We will accept individual roster waivers in order to form a team with 7 minimum players. The waivers should be requested at the time you submit your application and are subject to the Jamboree Committee’s approval.

The ‘D’ division is designed for 4th, 5th & 6th grade players (12 years and under), and ‘E’ division for teams composed of players at the instructional level up through the 4th grade (10 years and under). We are particularly interested in supporting the growth of younger players. Please pass this information along to teams in your organization that have D and E level players. Our E division starts with the first grade level and includes all skill sets. Kindergarten players on a roster are at the discretion of the team coaches.

The cost is $300 per team ($10 surcharge for each additional player over 10 players).
